Bethel

Bethel

​Bethel is a small town in Fairfield country, Connecticut, USA. It is situated approximately 69 miles away from New York. The total population of Bethel is 18,584. The first house that was built in Bethel was in the year 1730. Bethel means the house of God. It got its name when the people living in this area realized that they cannot go to the church in Danbury all the time. The most important affairs of Bethel are usually conducted in the Church.

            Total area of Bethel is about 16.9 square miles. 16.8 square miles is covered in land and 0.1 square miles is water. Redding is in the south of Bethel. Danbury is in the west, Brookfield is in north and Newtown is in the east of Bethel. Bethel has a subarctic climate. The summers are mild and the winters are moderately cold.

            There are so many exciting places in bethel for one to visit. From historical to religious to culturally rich spots. The Bethel Historical Society is a famous non-profit society which was formed by a group of people who wanted to preserve the history and historical facts of Bethel. The Bethel Historical Society is a great place to visit, especially if one has interest in history and architecture.

            Then there is the Blue Jay Orchards. The orchards are a great outdoor experience. There are almost 36 different varieties of apples. The owners also let the visitors eat their special pies and famous cider donuts. Sycamore Drive-in is one of the main landmark of Bethel. They are famous for their secret recipes of homemade root beer and French style steak burger. They have created the whole 50’s look to attract their customers. Another famous attraction is the 17 ton heavy Civil War Monument.

                        There are two main schools in Bethel; Frank A. Berry and Anna J. Rockwell. The schools have many different programs but mostly they are proud of their musical programs. This program lets the students their favorite instrument. The children are introduced to the string instruments from a very young age. And as they grow up they sing in choruses. They let the students decide what to read according to their taste. Each student reads about 200 to 300 per year.

            Bethel is considered as an easy place to live. People are happy with their small-town lives and say that their lifestyle is very easily affordable. Bethel was once the main hub for hat manufacturing. When bethel was still a part of Danbury any one could set up their own hat manufacturing shop. According to the locals the most desirable part of the town is its southern end. This part is mostly house farms and historic homes.
