Tai Chi Health Benefits

Tai Chi Health Benefits

There are many Tai Chi Health Benefits.
This is a non-competitive martial art that is known for providing both defense techniques and health benefits.  Gentle physical exercise and stretching the body with mindfulness, is part of the exercise.

The origin of Tai Chi goes back to Buddhist and Taoist monasteries.  Tai Chi means ‘supreme ultimate fist’ or ‘boundless fist’.
Tai Chi improves balance control, flexibility, fitness and also reduces symptoms of depression and pain.

This is a martial art that was practiced in ancient tradition and over the years it has evolved to become one way of alleviating anxiety and stress, you could say that is a form of meditation with mobility.  This exercise promotes peace both internally and outwardly.

This exercise is safe for people from the youngest to the oldest because it is gentle and adds no pressure to the joints and muscles.

Types of tai chi
Tai chi can be grouped into five styles that are diverse in nature.  Each has its own moderations, lineage and origin.
These are
  • Chen-style, which began between the years of 1580 and 1660
  • Yang-style, started in the years of 1799 and 1872
  • Wu-or Wu (Hao)-style – that started between 1812 and 1880
  • Sun-style – that was started between the years of 1861 and 1932 and
  • Wu-style was started between 1870 and 1942
Some have their focus on self-defence, others on health, while others are purely for competitions.
No one knows the true origin of tai chi but its basics can be traced back in the Chinese history, Confucianism and Taoism.
Zhang Sanfeng, a Taoist monk is believed to be the founder of tai chi.  Some claim that he left the monastery and became a hermit and created his own style of ‘gentle’ fighting.

This particular style can be handled by all ages because it is gentle and has low-impact nature.
